My 7th year of teaching officially began this past week! I cannot believe how quickly the years are adding up. Only 16 students showed up the first two days of school. Of course I enjoyed dreaming about how it would be if I only had 16 students for the entire school year...how much more I could do with them, how little discipline problems I would have, how I could teach more. But I know that my dream will soon be coming to an end. Usually around Labor Day, the rest of the students on the class list begin trickling in. I'm not exactly sure why they wait to come to school until after a week and a half, but they do! Then I kind of have to pretend it's the very first day of school again and go over all of my expectations, procedures, and rules.
So far, so good. I've only had one problem so far...one of my lovely girls decided to shove her foot inside the desk of the boy sitting next to her. Her motive is unclear to me (as she wouldn't tell me why), and I was rather surprised that she decided to demonstrate this behavior on the second day of school, but hey, it could be worse! It could be like my very first day of teaching 3rd grade three years ago where a boy overturned his desk because he was angry with me for making him go to the all-school assembly (the nerve of me, huh?!?). When I think back to my first week as a third-grade teacher, nothing else really compares.
After two days with the kiddos, it's already the weekend!!! I enjoyed sleeping past 5:00 this morning, and I am looking forward to a relaxing two days off.

Only 16 kids!! That would be nice!! Hopefully the kids won;t give you too much of a hard time this year!! I love your new ticker, too cute! Can't wait to have you and CJ over next week!
Girl - you do an amazing job! You couldn't pay me enough to be a teacher of any age!!
