The Year That Changed Our Lives...
*It seems like yesterday, not one year ago, that I was enjoying a Turtle Mocha and some conversation with a friend at a coffee shop while being slightly worried over the fact that I hadn't felt my baby move inside of me all day. I'm sure when I called the hospital from the coffee shop, the nurse on the other end must have thought I was just another mother-to-be that was worried over nothing. None the less, she told me I could come on in to get things checked out. Looking back, I know that God was placing an instinct inside of me that day as a warning that I needed to get to the hospital. Little did I know that heaven would send its greatest blessing to the world that evening at 9:21 PM after an excruciatingly painful placenta abruption and emergency c-section. Fast forward an entire year later...we are celebrating the Princess's first birthday today!!! This past year has been the most fulfilling and blessed year of our lives thus far. We have absolutely loved every single stage of Triniti's life...from bringing her home for the very first time...to her first smile and coo...to hearing Dada and Mama uttered from her lips...to watching her crawl...to being able to say a total of 55+ words/short phrases. This year has been so life changing and miraculous. Never did I comprehend how much joy a tiny human being could create in my life. No one has to convince me that children are a gift from God...she is the best gift CJ and I have ever been given.
*I'll be taking Trin to her 1-year check-up with her doctor on Thursday, so I'll update with all of the specifics (height, weight, percentiles, etc.) at that time. I also mentioned above that Trin is saying 55+ words/short phrases...I'll fill you in on those words as well. Her vocabulary increases daily, and me being the teacher that I am, keep a running list of all of the words she can say. I was asked by a co-worker this past Friday, "Do you drill Triniti with words every day?," to which I replied, "Yes, I guess you could say that." :)
*For now, enjoy a walk down memory lane over the past year of Trin's life. Whether it sounds cliche' or not, writing this post is truly bittersweet for me. However, CJ and I do look forward to all of the "sweet" times ahead. Thank you, God, for sending us Triniti. We SO appreciate her.

Guess What Triniti Did???
I called my Dad and asked him the title of today's post...as predicted, he got it right on the first guess. I then called my sister and asked her the same exact question. I was rather disappointed when she answered, "Bit someone?" I nearly choked and said, "Think positive about your niece...positive." haha So I pose the same question to you...guess what Triniti did today???
She took her first FOUR steps!!!!!!!!!!!
I have always gone through scenarios in my mind of how I would react/feel if Triniti hit a major milestone in her life under someone else's care. One of the most difficult things about going back to work when Triniti was five months old was that I would miss all of her "firsts." Several working-mother-friends of mine comforted me by saying that they didn't miss too many of their children's "firsts" just because they worked. Up until today, I don't think I have missed any of Triniti's firsts. So going back to the scenarios in my mind, I always predicted that I would take the news from someone else really hard. I completely surprised myself today when Trin's caretaker told me the news and instead of thinking, "Aww...I can't believe I missed it," I grabbed Trin out of Phyllis's arms, planted a huge kiss on Trin's cheek, and told her a gazillion times how proud I was of her. We also gave one another several high-fives.
So even though I have yet to see my daughter officially take steps, I told my Dad on the phone that I will be seeing her walk for years and years (and years) to come. I look forward to watching her become even more active. Watch out world...here she comes!!!

Funny Story about Triniti...
*While thoroughly enjoying reading everyone else's hilarious stories about their children, I often wondered what funny stories I would tell about my own. This past Saturday, Triniti did something that allows me to share my first funny story about my child. I hope this puts a smile on your face...or even causes you to laugh out loud...
CJ and I are very busy these days with disciplining Triniti and trying to help her understand at her young age how important it is to be obedient, and how Jesus wants her to obey Doddy and Mama. So Saturday afternoon Trin was doing something she was not supposed to be doing (I honestly don't even remember what exactly she was doing). I told her "NO" once, and while she stopped and acknowledged me, she turned around and did the same thing again. She should know by now that after the first "NO," if she disobeys a second time, she gets spanked. So sure enough, after the second time, I spanked her. Imagine my surprise when after I spanked her she shouted out, "Jesus!!!" I had to control myself from bursting out with laughter (CJ, too). I looked at her and said, "Jesus isn't going to save you right now Sweetie. Jesus wants you to obey Doddy and MaMa."
I couldn't believe that of all the times she could have shouted out "Jesus," she chose to call on His name when she was getting spanked. Wow!!!
